Why COE position matters

In Singapore, the COE is the single largest determinant of a used car's value. Two identical cars with different COE time remaining will trade at materially different prices.

Short COE zone (≤3 years remaining): the cheapest way into a Singapore car. Many first-time buyers and short-term owners stay in this zone. Maximum loan tenure is constrained, exit options (renew, deregister, scrap, export) need to be planned before purchase.

How to use the COE remaining years calculator

The COE (Certificate of Entitlement) is what gives your car the right to be on the road in Singapore. It runs for either 10 years (non-renewable) or 5 years (renewable, capped). Cars with remaining COE have a value component on top of the PARF rebate; cars whose COE has expired are essentially scrap metal with some usable parts. This calculator pulls the registration date from your log card and tells you how many years of COE you have left, plus what that means for the scrap-value maths.

Step by step

  1. Find your registration date on the LTA log card (top-right column).
  2. Enter it into the calculator — the remaining COE tenure is auto-computed.
  3. Read the COE expiry date and note whether you have more or less than 5 years left.
  4. If you have less than 2 years COE remaining, your car is in the 'short-COE' bucket — Wheeley's specialty. Direct cash offer applies.
